A Carousel for Missoula and Dragon Hollow Playarea are two of Missoula’s favorite destinations. While riding a hand-carved carousel on the banks of the Clark Fork River and playing on a dragon are pretty exciting, what makes them truly special is how they were created and are maintained. When the Carousel opened on May 27, 1995, volunteers had already donated over 100,000 hours to its creation. Carvers, sanders, painters, mechanics and others had given their time, and local people and businesses had donated money, materials and supplies to the first hand-carved carousel to be built by volunteers since the Great Depression. When Dragon Hollow was built in 2001 over 4,000 volunteers worked for nine days to make a magical place for children of all ages to play. Volunteers continue to preserve and improve both attractions, so magic is at play daily on the Clark Fork River in Caras Park.

Staff and volunteers from Baskin-Robbins and A Carousel for Missoula come together during the Western Montana Fair to serve ice cream. Baskin Robbins donates a percentage of the proceeds to the Carousel.
