Open AIR Artist Residency

Open AIR, an arts-focused nonprofit, cultivates connections among artists of diverse backgrounds and disciplines through collaborative partnerships. Central to their mission are residency programs designed to immerse artists in communities, inspiring them to create art that celebrates and preserves the essence of place, environment, and the arts' significance across all realms.

This summer, the Fairgrounds will host 20 artists for a short-term residency spanning from June to September. During their stay, artists will delve into themes aligning with the 'Lasso the Moon' Western Montana Fair theme, and also drawing inspiration from community, recreation, youth development, conservation, heritage, tradition, and more.

The residency will conclude with the annual Open AIR art auction on September 21st, featuring a donated piece from each artist, crafted during their time at the Fairgrounds.
