2024 Important Information

Entry Instructions

Please see Show Times listed below for Entry/Delivery times for your specific entry. The Online Entry System is not available for Floriculture entries.  Paper entry tags will be available in the Floriculture Building starting Monday, August 5.  Each exhibitor will be responsible for submitting his/her own entry tags.  Parents must sign if exhibitor is under 18 years of age.

august 5 Exhibit Deadline & Delivery

Entry time is 1 to 8 pm Monday, August 5. After 8:00 pm, entries will be accepted if superintendent is in the building. Judging begins at 1:00pm Tuesday August 6. All judging is open to the public and is conducted according to the rules of the Western Montana Fair. Decisions by the judges are final. Show opens to the public Tuesday August 6 at 11:00am and closes Sunday August 11, 2023, at 6:00 PM

august 11-12 Exhibit Retrieval

Exhibits may be picked up Sunday August 11 after the Rose Show closes, or on or before 5:00 P.M. Monday, August 12.  Any exhibits not picked up by Monday, August 12 will be disposed of by the Superintendent.

RULES & REMINDERS

  • The entry must be the work of or grown by the exhibitor, except where specific allowance is stated.

  • The Superintendent is authorized at any time to dispose of any entry that is wormy, unsightly or spoiled.

  • Previously entered exhibits are eligible for entry.

  • In craft classes, plant material both fresh and dried, and artificial plant materials are permitted unless other stated.

Division I, Section A: Arts & Crafts

  • All classes are eligible for a Blue Rosette award given by the Western Montana Fair for excellence to the best Senior Citizen, one for the best youth, and one for the best open entry.

  • Senior Citizen exhibitors please mark your entry tag as Senior Citizen as Senior’s are judged as a separate entry and only against other Senior citizens.

  • Youth exhibitors please mark your entry tag as youth with age category as each age group is judged only against youth of same category.

    • Juniors: Preschool to 7 years of age

    • Intermediate: 8 to 12 years of age

    • Advanced: 13 to 18 years of age

Class 300: “Tussle-Mussie: is a compact floral bouquet with bound stems, classically presented with the stems wrapped in ribbon. Sometimes it is called a nosegay. Ribbons are permitted. If fresh, a clear glass vase with stems in water is suggested for staging.  a) Fresh; b) dried flowers; c) silk flowers.

Class 301: Decorated packages.  Unusual, artificial, or dried plant material is permitted.  1) Gift box or package; 2) bag; 3) any other

Class 302: Gourd Crafts

Class 304: Dried plant/flower crafts   Ribbons and Artificial plant material permitted

Class 305: Craft Kit, must be the work of only one person the exhibitor. The craft must relate to something in the garden or could be used in the garden.

Class 306: Craft Class:   a class may enter its product here if it does not fit the other categories.

Division I, Section B: Design Theme: “Mechanical Marvels”

Class 309: “Squares and Oblongs” Designers choice of materials and design type. a) Fresh and dried; b) dried

Class 310: “Moving Parts” Designers can create arrangements that incorporate elements with moving parts, such as kinetic sculptures or mobiles Designers choice of materials and design type. a) Fresh and dried; b) dried

Class 311: “ Steampunk Wonders” Designers can create arrangements inspired by the steampunk aesthetic incorporating elements like gears, cogs, and vintage machinery. Designers choice of materials and design type. a) Fresh and dried; b) dried

Class 312: "Artificial Automations" Designers can create arragement using plant materials to depict mechanical creatures or robots.

Class 313: “Book of Inventions" A design that interprets the title of a book. Please place name of the book on a card and place with entry. Designer’s choice of materials. Exhibit to be no more than 24” wide. The design may be a scene.

Class 314: “Miniature Marvels" A 5” miniature design using designer’s choice of plant materials. No artificial plant material

Class 315: “Roots and Vegetables Contraptions" Designers can create arrangements using roots and vegetables to construct imaginative mechanical contraptions. Be sure the entry is movable and stable.

Division I, Section C:  Horticulture

Class 316: “A Fairy Garden” A dish garden containing plants and items conveying the theme. 

Class 400: Favorite Flower  Any flower may be entered in this lot.  Identify by name.  The winner will be chosen by a vote of the public and winner will be announced Friday afternoon.  One (1) entry per exhibitor.
