2024 Important Information

This is a one (1) day show – Sunday, August 11, 2024. Entries accepted 7:00am to 10:00am, Sunday, August 11 at the East end of the Floriculture Building. Judging promptly begins at 10:00am and is open to the public. All judges’ decisions are final. The Show closes at 6:00pm

RULES & REMINDERS

  • The Rose Show is co-sponsored with the Missoula Rose Society, an affiliate of the American Rose Society. 

  • The Show will be judged by the rules of the American Rose Society and by accredited judges, junior judges, and/or Garden Club judges.

  • Co-Chairs of the Show are Ron Dowell and Jim Sadler.  Ron Dowell is the horticulture consultant.  Jim Sadler is the Artistic Design Consultant. 

  • All residents of the Western Montana are eligible to enter. 

  • This is an alphabetical show – each exhibitor will place their specimen in the sections alphabetically, using the first letter of the name of the rose as listed in the American Rose Society Handbook.  Please bring your roses.  If there is no class for the rose, we will make one.  All roses are welcome!

Horticulture Division I

DIVISION I, SECTION A: CHALLENGE CLASSES

Class 1: Rose Bowl, Hybrid Tea or Grandiflora 1/2 -3/4 open with leaf. 

Class 2: Mini Rose Bowl, Miniature 1/2- 3/4 open, no leaf. 

Class 3: Peace.  All varieties. 

Class 4: Hybrid Tea or Grandiflora Spray.  One (1) spray, naturally grown. 

Class 5: Hybrid Tea English Box.  One (1) to six (6) different varieties of Miniatures. 

Class 6: Mini English Box.  One (1) to six (6) different varieties of Miniatures. 

Class 7: Three Hybrid Teas.  Three (3) of the same variety; 1/2 – 3/4 open. 

Class 8: Bloom Cycle.  Three (3) of the same variety; a bud, ½ open and ¾ open. 

Class 8a: Bouquet of five (5) different varieties.  Five (5) Hybrid Tea or Grandiflora; 1/2 to 3/4 open. 

Class 8b: Bouquet of five (5) different varieties.  Miniatures 1/2 to 3/4 open.

DIVISION I, SECTION B: HYBRID TEA ROSES

One (1) to a stem, disbudded or naturally grown.

Class 9: A thru Z Hybrid Tea.  One (1) bloom to a stem, disbudded, 1/2 open.

Artistic Design Division II

  • All arrangements, with or without arranger-grown roses, are eligible for section awards if first place winners have scored 92 points or higher

  • This Division is governed by the current rules and procedures of the American Rose Society and the Western Montana Fair.

  • Arrangement classes shall be open to all amateur arrangers.

  • Exhibitors are permitted only one (1) entry in each class. There is no limited to the number of classes entered

  • Entries must be in place by 10:00am and must remain in place until the close of the show. All entries received after 10:00am will be used for display purposes only.

  • All roses must be outdoor garden grown.

  • Each different variety of rose used in an arrangement shall be correctly named. Misnaming will subject entry to penalty, but not disqualification. The names of the roses will be verified by the ARS judges.

  • Roses must be the dominant flower in all arrangements. Other flowers and foliage may be used. No artificial plant material is permitted, and no painted fresh plant material is allowed. Treated, tinted or painted dried plant material is allowed. Accessories are permitted in all classes, unless otherwise stated. American flags are not allowed in any case.

  • The decisions of the judges are final. Judging will be done by ARS accredited judges and student judges and/or National Garden Club accredited judges and student judges

  • Please mark entry as Novice, Intermediate, or Advanced, as all may enter in all of the classes.

THEME OF SHOW: “NORTHERN LIGHTS”

All artistic classes are designer’s choice of type and components.  Roses of any size and kind allowed in any arrangement.
